New Year, new start
" a very special culinary journey perfectly prepared by Chef Gao "

For the first of our 2021 events we welcomed 31 members and guests from Qingdao, Shanghai and Shenyang. They joined us for our “Qingdao Tan”, Spring Festival dinner held at the award-winning Shang Palace Restaurant in the Shangri-La Hotel Qingdao.

In keeping with the Chinese New Year theme we also wanted to recognize and be inspired by the glamour and glory of the Shanghai Bund in the 1930s. A vibrant era during which this renowned entertainment playground was a melting pot for culture and fashion. For this special evening we encouraged all members and guests to come “dressed to impress” in their take on Chinese elegance inspired by the movie “Shanghai Tan”.

Shanghai-born Chinese Executive Chef Gao Deliang has worked at numerous international five-star hotels abroad and cities throughout China. Forty years of culinary experience has helped him build a strong reputation as an expert on Huaiyang, Shanghainese, Sichuan, Cantonese and Southeast Asian cuisines. His creative cooking philosophy combines delicacies, healthy ingredients, and fashionable presentation.

Roasted mushroom tartlets, smoked chicken canapés, glazed onions with crisp bread, vegetable crudités with dips were paired with Ruggeri Argeo Prosecco DOC. This whetted our appetites for what was to come.

Dinner took us on a very special culinary journey perfectly prepared by Chef Gao. Every course was special providing surprises delighting our palates with each presentation.
