Egypt - Karim Henein

Bailliage of Egypt
Chancelier

Member of the International Conseil d'Adminstration & Conseil Magistral
" the values of hard work and persistence run through his blood, making him the successful entrepreneur and businessman he is today "

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Karim Henein has always been a man of many faces. Descending from one of Egypt’s elite families; the grandson of Yassa Pasha Andraos (the Pasha of Luxor), Karim was introduced to the world of luxury at a young age.

Nevertheless, the values of hard work and persistence run through his blood, making him the successful entrepreneur and businessman he is today.

Karim studied Electronic Engineering and gained an M.Sc. Degree with distinction in Telecommunication Engineering from Imperial College, London. He then followed in the footsteps of his late father Maître Maher Henein who founded the Bailliage of Egypt with the support of Jean Valby in 1978.

Joining the Chaîne in 1987, Karim was nominated as Chancelier of Egypt in 1999 and appointed to the Conseil Magistral in 2005. One year later, President Yam Atallah invited him to join the Conseil d’Administration and in 2008 he became a Commandeur.

Karim co-founded the Charitable Association of the Chaîne (ACCR), a social movement aiming to help underprivileged children and orphans by giving them free education in culinary schools.

The ACCR schools are now active in Egypt, Portugal and South Africa. Karim initiated the activity of the ACCR in Egypt with his wife, Angela, who is also a Chaîne member, with the concept of a ‘Glass of milk every day’.

Karim is a major shareholder and CEO of BEARD AG, a highly reputable manufacturing company producing stainless steel and silver-plated tableware. BEARD exports its high quality cutlery and hollow-ware products to some of the most luxurious establishments worldwide.

In 1987, Karim became the first person to smoke salmon in the Middle East and Africa, setting up a factory near Cairo. Ever since, his company has supplied the finest salmon to Egypt’s best hotels and restaurants.

In 2012, Karim and his wife Angela combined their affinity for fine gastronomy and their passion for excellence to establish their own fine dining restaurant. The Smokery, in Cairo, has rapidly gained popularity and expanded to three of Egypt’s most prestigious locations.
