Eighty members and guests from Bailliages across Switzerland spent an inspiring day hosted by Gudrun & Dominic Engeler at Schloss Gündelhart (Gündelhart Castle) in the lovely rural canton of Thurgau (English = Thurgovia) which is situated in the German-speaking part of Switzerland.

The Bailliage’s 25th birthday was a great motivation for the Bailli and his team to organize a fabulous barbecue event in the luxurious park of this privately farmed estate. First mentioned in AD882 the property we visited during the cocktail reception dated back to 1645. An added spectacle was the fact that nowadays animals move freely around the castle and the beautiful grounds.

Thanks to the perfect summer weather everyone enjoyed a unique outdoor luncheon under an ancient oak tree. Of course, local specialties such as tartare of local beef, salmon and smoked whitefish as tartare made for a fabulous start to the menu.

Air-dried beef on local melon was followed by a delicious barbecue which made us remember the origins of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. Hours later, the Grand Marnier soufflé dessert concluded this wonderful, relaxed outdoor event showcasing again the warm-hearted atmosphere and the friendship between the members of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.
