National Final held at the Stockholm Hotel & Restaurant School

The end of February usually means organising the National Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs competition in Sweden and this year was no exception.

Early on the morning of Monday 27th the secret ingredients of the “black box” were revealed to the six competitors. After handing in their menus an intensive day in the kitchens at the Stockholm Hotel & Restaurant School started.

Magnus Åkerström from Stadshuskällaren Restaurant in Stockholm was the winner. Close behind, the Runner-up was Hampus Fors from Swedish Taste in Gothenburg. Ebba Nordin, from Upper House, also in Gothenburg, came third.

Magnus of course accepted the challenge of being the Swedish representative at the international final in Frankfurt-am-Main Germany, in September. We wish him all the best on the day but before then we know there will be some hard training.

The past few years has seen a lot of effort put into having a jury of high end professionals who have an excellent reputation in the profession therefore being ideal role models for the young chefs of today. Jury members included the well-known Swedish chefs Kurt Weid, Johan Jureskog, Cajsa Johansson and Jimmi Eriksson. Jimmi was the JCR International Runner-up in Istanbul 2013 and furthermore was Chef of the Year in Sweden 2016.

The jury´s accolade for Magnus, the winner, was “classic cuisine with a twist - clear and precise tastes - an overall high quality”. Clearly they were very much impressed.
