Spain Dinner

Bailliage of Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona, October 21, 2017

Welcoming Chef Xavi Lahuerta to the Chaîne

To celebrate Chef Xavi Lahuerta becoming a Professional member of the Chaîne, José Félix Bentz i Oliver, Bailli of Barcelona, organized a dinner in the famous chef’s restaurant “El Bar”.

El Bar is new to the city of Barcelona. It combines the elegance of the building with contemporary cuisine. The philosophy is to prepare traditional tapas by bringing back classic flavours that guests enjoy in all their simplicity. Following the same principle, the menu offers main dishes where combining sea and mountain flavours is a speciality since they are both part of the identity of our land.

As soon as we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted by Chef Lahuerta with a welcoming glass of cava and appetizers consisting of olives with textured oil, a tray of Manchego and Parmesan cheeses and some rustic chicken croquettes, which were even more delicious.

Once at table we continued with coca (pastry) bread with tomato, squid with Andalusian garlic confit, escalivada (smoky grilled vegetables) with tuna and canelón (cannelloni) of chicken with liver.

What an outstanding start to the dinner! The second course of hake followed by suckling pig continued to wow the diners. Dessert of chocolate bread with oil left us all speechless, it was so good!

We offer cava for friendship and for a chef who will be the source of much conversation in the gastronomic panorama of Barcelona. He is definitely one to watch and naturally we are delighted to have him as a fellow Chaîne member.

It was a real pleasure to be able to welcome Marco de la Barrera, Bailli Honoraire of Guadalajara (Mexico) and Silvia, who, taking advantage of their stay in Barcelona, did not hesitate to join our dinner. Thanks, dear friends!

The evening was relaxed with an emphasis on fine food coupled with the friendship and fraternity among the members of the Chaîne regardless of where they came from. This is as it has been and always should remain so.

Vive la Chaîne!
