A celebration of Australia

We gathered for a spectacular evening at the InterContinental Sydney both for a ‘Celebration of Australia’ and to welcome new members. Bailli Provincial Joerg Boeckeler, who is Area General Manager for the InterContinental Hotels Group, along with his talented and efficient team, organised the evening superbly.

The evening began in the historic Premier's Room. The Induction Ceremony was conducted by Bailli Délégué Norm Harrison in his capacity as a Member of the Conseil Magistral. He was assisted by Chancelier Sam Giddings. Nineteen new members (nine Professionals and ten Non-professionals) received their Chaîne regalia. Chevalier Loic Rethore was presented with a Chaîne Bronze Award for his outstanding contribution to the Bailliage. Norm also announced four recent appointments to the National and Provincial Councils.

Following the ceremony, members and guests were received in the Arcade surrounding the hotel's Cortile lounge for freshly-shucked Sydney rock oysters, canapés, bespoke cocktails, and Mumm Champagne.

For dinner we were seated at tables of ten beautifully decorated with native Australian flowers by newly inducted member Yvonne Ten Pas.

To open the formal ‘Celebration of Australia’, guests experienced a ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremony by Wathaurong Indigenous Elder Stan Dryden who surprised guests with an outstanding didgeridoo performance.

The camaraderie of Chaîne members on the night cannot go unmentioned, equally the generosity of those who donated items for the silent auction and raffle. Amazingly the group of 60 people raised over A$7,500 in support of our national Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs and Jeunes Sommeliers competitions.

It was an evening that made us all proud to be members of the Chaîne.
