Bailliage of Victoria celebrates at Rippon Lea
" Ken de Mallindine was warmly welcomed as the new Bailli "

The Bailliage chose to celebrate its 40th anniversary with a Chapitre at Rippon Lea in Melbourne. The event attracted over 100 members and guests to celebrate the Ruby Jubilee.

“Rippon Lea” is a National Trust property eight kilometres from the central business district. It is set in 14 acres of garden and was built in 1868 by Sir Fredrick Sargood, a Melbourne businessman, politician and philanthropist.

Guests assembled in the Ballroom for the Induction Ceremony officiated by Bailli Délégué Norm Harrison in his capacity as a Member of the Conseil Magistral. There were 33 inductions, promotions and awards made for both the Chaîne and Ordre Mondial.

After the ceremony Champagne Bollinger and canapes were served under a canopy adjacent to the Hollywood-style pool overlooking the garden.

Dinner followed in the historic, beautiful Ballroom. Dishes created by Executive Chef Matthew Haigh were carefully matched by fine wines. A string quartet added to the enjoyment.

Later in the evening highlights of the 40 years of the Chaîne in Victoria were visually presented and narrated by Bailli Shirley Anderson. Some founder members of the Bailliage were in attendance and spoke of their early years in the Chaîne.

This Victoria event was the last one under the tenure of Bailli Shirley Anderson. It also marked the retirement from Chaîne activities of Joerg Boeckeler, Bailli Provincial of New South Wales. In expressing much appreciation for their commitment to the Chaîne, Bailli Délégué Norm Harrison presented both Shirley and Joerg with a vintage bottle of champagne.

Concluding the presentations, Ken de Mallindine was warmly welcomed as the new Bailli of Victoria. We all wish Ken great success in the new role.
