OMGD International Grand Chapitre 2019

This second International Grand Chapitre for the Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs (OMGD) will begin on Wednesday 11th with members and guests arriving and registering at their hotels. Everyone will then meet up at the host hotel for a “Get Together” welcoming dinner.

The outline programme for the following three days is currently …

Thursday 12th
A boat trip on the lower Douro exploring Ribeiras and the neighbourhood is planned with lunch either on the boat or at a nearby restaurant. Afterwards there will be a technical tasting of Douro Wines and Ports. A presentation will be included by a winemaker assisted by other guest producers on the theme of the demarcated region and its connection with gastronomy. Dinner potentially will be at the same cellar.
 
Friday 13th
The Douro Estates (Quintas); visit to Régua or Pinhão, possibly by steam engine hauled train with return and visits by bus to Vintage, if time permits. Lunch will be at Restaurant Doc, or in one of the Quintas, with local entertainment. An immersive experience will follow that of “Pisa” treading grapes at one of the estates. A winemaker dinner is planned at the same estate.
 
Saturday 14th
Visiting Porto in an open top bus followed by lunch and an afternoon for shopping or relaxing. The Chaîne and OMGD Induction Ceremony will commence at 5.30pm. There may also be the possibility of inductions into a Portuguese wine society, i.e. the “Confraria do Vinho do Porto”. The programme’s grand finale will be the Gala Dinner with entertainment.
