Portugal Lunch

Bailliage of Algarve, Portugal
Armação de Pêra, June 20, 2020

Perfect weather for dining on the beach
" We finished with a fantastic crème brûlée with mandarin sorbet "

Bailliage members met for a relaxed lunch at the recently reopened restaurant “Arte Náutica”, one of Vila Vita’s restaurants on the beach of Armação de Pera.

Although the beach was very quiet, it was good to see restaurants reopening with life returning very slowly to normality. The weather was perfect. As could be expected from a restaurant of this class, so were both food and service.

After a quick swim in the sea for the bravest and youngest, a glass of Soalheiro Bruto (a sparkling Alvarinho) was served on the terrace - a very pleasant start to a beach lunch.

First, a delicious selection of seafood starters: cockle dumplings, fresh oysters, octopus skewers with chorizo, baby squid with garlic, wine and coriander, was served with a white wine from Vila Vita’s Herdade dos Grous Estate near Beja.

For the main course, grilled fish as fresh as it can be straight from Sagres market. The catches of the day were sea bass and sea bream. We enjoyed a fillet of each fish with potatoes “a murro” and a local salad.  The white Reserva from Herdade dos Grous was a perfect match for this delicate dish.

We finished with a fantastic crème brûlée with mandarin sorbet. Partnered by a glass of White Port Reserva from Rozès it was another winning combination.

A perfect lunch on the beach was enjoyed by all with the usual conviviality and gastronomy which are of course essentials of a Chaîne event.
