OMGD Myanmar Champagne Sabrage

Bailliage of Myanmar
Yangon, January 20, 2018

Lots of fun at the Atlas Rooftop Bar & Lounge

The Bailliage’s Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs group was proud to host its very first “sabrage” event in cooperation with Champagne Taittinger and the Atlas Rooftop Bar & Lounge in Yangon.

We were privileged to welcome Nicholas Delion, Champagne Taittinger’s Director for Asia, to this great event. He generously sponsored some formidable vintage Champagnes for this occasion.

Esteemed guests were Grand Officier Peter Green, a Grand Officier member in Bangkok, Thailand, with his wife Yoonhi Green, a Dame de la Chaîne member in Vancouver, Canada. We were also honoured that Mr and Mrs Siegfried Egger had made the journey from the Bailliage Provincial of Eastern Seaboard based in Pattaya, Thailand, to join us for the evening.

The members and guests enjoyed fresh oysters and premium caviar accompanied by Pan Asian tapas prepared by the Atlas Rooftop Bar’s Culinary Director, Florian Eberhardt.

Highlight of the event was everyone having the opportunity to gain a “sabreur” certificate once they had successfully removed the top from a bottle of Champagne Taittinger using a Burmese Dha sabre. More than 40 bottles of Taittinger Nocturne where opened by this traditional method!

The food was an outstanding selection of Champagne compatible delicacies:

- Oyster station with freshly-schucked Fine de Claire, Belon, Muirgen, Tsarkaya and accompaniments
- Osietra and Beluga caviar station with buckwheat blinis, sour cream, chives
- Lobster tartare, cucumber, miso cream, nori chips
- Duck liver terrine, smoked duck, potato crisps
- Grilled zucchini, St Maure, pimenton de la Vera
- Snow crab cake, gremolata, green asparagus
- Hokkaido scallop, cauliflower, ikura
- Seared Wagyu tenderloin, celeriac, truffle jus
- Gruyère de Comté, honey jelly, pumpkin seed bread
- Pistachio macaron, hazelnut ganache

At the end of the evening special thanks were given to the Atlas Rooftop Bar’s Operations Manager, Charles David Hay. Everyone certainly enjoyed the camaraderie and friendship of this special and truly unforgettable night.
