USA World Chaîne Day

Bailliage of Michigan, United States of America
Detroit (MI), April 13, 2019

Joint celebration with the Bailliage's 50th Anniversary
" The chefs showcased their creativity with every course "

The Bailliage celebrated its 50th Anniversary and World Chaîne Day in the same momentous evening at the Detroit Club located downtown and coined the "club that built Detroit”. A “Romanesque Revival” building designed by Philadelphia architect, Wilson Eyre Junior, the Club was the perfect venue for this event given its rich history dating back to 1891.

The evening began with a sparkling reception in the Grand Salon where everyone mingled sipping Zinck Crémant d'Alsace Rosé and enjoying smoked duck breast mille feuille with foie gras mousse.

Moving to the Grand Ballroom we witnessed the following being inducted: Holly Myers - Dame de la Chaîne, Daniel Glisky - Professionnel du Vin, Christel Gaillard - Professionnel du Vin, Sara Chapman Williams - Dame de la Chaîne, Shiaofong Yin - Maître Hôtelier. The Induction Ceremony was performed by Bailli Délégué Hal Small. We were very honoured to have Hal with us.

The third element in the programme saw us move upstairs to the Presidential Ballroom where formal dinners for USA Presidents and automobile tycoons once took place. The room boasts a 30-feet high ceiling, beautifully carved dark hardwood with ornate designs and wood panelling.

Members and their guests enjoyed a six-course dinner with paired wines including a 1969 D’Oliveira Sercial Madeira to mark the Bailliage’s 50 years. The chefs showcased their creativity with every course right down to the table-side intermezzo; liquid nitrogen which came to life before our eyes.

To close a spectacular evening everyone moved to the intimate Lafayette Room on the third floor for dessert. We enjoyed a presentation on French Detroit by Associate Professor of History Sara Chapman Williams, Dame de la Chaîne, and Maître Hotelier Shiaofong Yin who is Managing Partner for TEALE Group. As a memento we were given a pamphlet featuring photos of historic French documents and details from 1701 Detroit.

The event was a huge success and one that will be remembered for another 50 years!
