An iconic event with Peter Vinding-Diers at Rold StorKro

Ordre Mondial, Rold StorKro’s “Winemakers Dinner” and Peter Vinding-Diers were the clues to us all that this April event was to be iconic.

Peter, known as the “grand old man” among Danish winemakers, continues to start new projects. The latest is in Sicily.

Almost everyone in his family is involved in the wine business. His eldest son, Hans Vinding-Diers, makes some of the best (and most expensive) Malbecs in Argentina. His nephew, Peter Siesseck, is the man behind the famous Pingus from Ribera del Duero in Spain.

Rold StorKro is located in the northern part of Jutland in the beautiful Rold Forest close to Rebild Bakke (known for its famous reunion with American expats on Fourth of July).

Chef Jørgen Pedersen, Chargé de Missions Honoraire, warmly welcomed everyone to his establishment. To commence the tasting Jørgen introduced Peter Vinding-Diers who then briefly outlined a career which has taken him around the world – France (25 years in Bordeaux), Hungary, Chile, Spain, South Africa, Bulgaria, Brazil, Kenya and now Italy.

During the tutored tasting, Peter took us through four wines:
- 2012 Murgo Brut, Tenuta san Michele, Sicily (from Peter’s neighbour on the island)
- 2014 Il Carrubo, Vinding Montecarrubo, Sicily
- 2014 Rudolf ‘For family & friends’, Vinding Montecarrubo, Sicily
(Peter’s private wine, i.e. not for sale)

- 2013 A Lisa, Bodega Noemia, Argentina (by Hans Vinding-Diers)

Chef Jørgen then enthralled us with the following menu, accompanied by more Vinding-Diers family wines ...

MENU

Veal from the fjords, lumpfish roe, tuna, capers
2012 Dominio de Pingus ‘PSI’ – Ribera del Duero (Peter Siesseck)

Raw marinated octopus, buttermilk, dill, cucumber
2013 Rustenberg Chardonnay – Stellenbosch

Beef tenderloin, morels, duck liver, asparagus
2014 Il Piccolo – Vinding Montecarrubo, Sicily

Baked Tallegio, tarragon, mustard, hazelnut
2014 ‘Cuveé Suzanne’ (for family & friends) – Vinding Montecarrubo, Sicily
(Peter Vinding-Diers’ private wine – not for sale)

After the dinner Jørgen Pedersen was presented with his Honoraire pin for his many years of service on the Bailliage of Denmark National Council.

Much appreciation was given to all – especially the kitchen and service brigades – who had made the evening such an iconic event.
