Switzerland Dinner

Bailliage of Pays de Vaud, Switzerland
Glion, August 12, 2023

An emotional occasion dedicated to gastronomy
" Under a serene and sunny sky .. members of the Bailliage enjoyed a convivial reception during which Toni Mittermair was awarded his new medal! "

On June 1st Toni Mittermair handed over the running of the Hôtel Victoria to his son, Antoine. After joining the hotel’s kitchen team in 1966, he became its director in 1969. And so for the last 54 years, alongside his wife Barbara, he has managed this magnificent establishment, helping it grow to become the beautiful, renowned hotel that it is today! This 4-star hotel has been part of Relais & Châteaux for 49 years and boasts 14 Gault & Millau points.

And we shouldn’t forget that Toni Mittermair is also a member of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs: inducted on December 8, 1973 in Munich as Maître de Table, he now holds the title of Grand Officier Maître Rôtisseur. This year, he was awarded the title of Grand Officier Commandeur (marking 50 years of Chaîne membership).

It was against this stunning backdrop on Saturday, August 12th that the Bailliage of Pays de Vaud celebrated this new title while saying “Farewell” to its old friend and welcoming his son, Antoine, who will be inducted into the Chaîne this autumn.

Under a serene and sunny sky, in the hotel’s wonderful gardens, members of the Bailliage enjoyed a convivial reception, during which Toni Mittermair was awarded his new medal!

And what could have been better than sitting down to share a delicious meal on the terrace, served with some of the region’s great wines! At the end of this wonderful evening, we congratulated the service and kitchen brigades and wished every success to Antoine Mittermair, the new Director of the Victoria.

A historic hotel
Built in 1869, the Hôtel Victoria encountered a number of owners, two wars and all sorts of transformations before it was bought by Toni Mittermair who, with the acquisition of more than 500 pieces of art and collectors’ items, went on to create a unique atmosphere, reminiscent of the “art de vivre” of the Belle Epoque. Pouring his heart and soul into the hotel, working tirelessly throughout, he has managed to keep the dream alive and carry on this wonderful story.
