OMGD Malaysia Dinner

Bailliage of Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, August 29, 2023

A unique event
" The National Bailliage celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the International Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs (OMGD) "

The National Bailliage celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the International Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs (OMGD) with a special Michelin 2-star dinner by renowned chef Alberto Landgraf from Rio de Janeiro.

This exclusive event was hosted at eye-popping Sky51 with unrivalled views at the top of Officier Maître Hotelier Donald Lim’s establishment, EQ Kuala Lumpur (KL). EQ KL was winner of Travel and Leisure Awards Asia Pacific in 2022 and 2023 for being the number one hotel in Malaysia. Conseiller Culinaire Federico Michieletto is EQ KL’s Executive Chef.

Members and guests enjoyed blue cocktails, mocktails and canapés at Blue, KL’s top rooftop lounge. A group photo in front of a stunning backdrop of Christ the Redeemer looking over Rio de Janeiro was a no brainer! We then moved for dinner to Sabayon with its panoramic view of KL’s cityscape. Copper and bronze tones accented dramatic high ceilings.

Everyone was enchanted by an unforgettable culinary journey. We tasted, savoured and relished the best of Brazilian Rio gastronomy. Many ingredients were especially flown in from Brazil. The exquisite dinner was presented with Japanese culinary artistry and paired with amazing wines from Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and Italy’s Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

Master of Ceremonies was Échanson Olivier di Tullio. He also conducted the evening’s auctions, proceeds of which have been earmarked for the Bailliage of Malaysia’s Jeunes Sommeliers Competition programme.

The auction’s star item was an incredible painting generously donated by award winning Dato Chng Huck Theng. An artist and sculptor on the local and international stage he draws inspiration from acute observations of the correlation between human, nature and society. Chng’s talents as an artist cover not only painting and contemporary Chinese calligraphy. His bronze sculptures are internationally acclaimed and have been auctioned in Singapore and Malaysia.

Traditional gifts to the ladies were sponsored by Chargé de Missions Paul Lau, elder son of Dato’ Lau Foo Sun, the National Bailliage’s founder.

Post dinner, the evening’s camaraderie continued well into the early hours at the VIP Sky Deck. Its open-air rooftop bar was reserved for Chaîne members and guests.

Truly a magical evening with plenty of camaraderie, joy and laughter to accompany a dinner extraordinaire. Many happy memories of a unique event for those who were lucky to attend!

Vive la Chaîne!
