Finland Grand Chapitre

Bailliage of Finland
Jyväskylä, August 17-19, 2018

Themed 'the kiss of fire'
" Finnish traditions and locally-sourced ingredients formed the basis for a culturally-rich gourmet experience "

The National Bailliage’s Grand Chapitre was held in Jyväskylä this year.

Jyväskylä in the western part of the Finnish Lakeland, lies some 130 km north-east from Tampere. It is the largest city in the region of Central Finland and on the Finnish Lakeland.

Elias Lönnrot, the compiler of the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala, gave the city the nickname “Athens of Finland” coming from Jyväskylä’s significant role as an educational centre.

The theme of the Grand Chapitre was “Kiss of Fire”, with references to barbecue, smoke, sauna and love.

Members and their guests – 350 in all – came from all parts of Finland and internationally. They could revel not only in traditional Chaîne camaraderie and pleasures of the table, but also sunny skies and exceptionally warm weather.

During the Induction Ceremony, 82 new gastronomes – Professional and Non-professional members - received their Chaîne regalia. They were inducted by Chancelier Juha Ojamo in his capacity as a Member of the Conseil Magistral representing President Yam Atallah.

Throughout the three days, Finnish traditions and locally-sourced ingredients formed the basis for a culturally-rich gourmet experience.

Compliments are due to Bailli Sari Harvia-Jyllinmaa and her team for the welcome and organisation of this National Bailliage event in their city.

It was a memorable occasion to be with friends whilst enjoying fine food and wonderful weather.
