Charity Gala Dinner
" Not only was the 'culture of the table' much in evidence but the arts were also privileged "

The Bailliage of Austria, through its local Bailliage in Salzburg and the good offices of Günter Albert, Member of the Conseil d’Administration, organised a Charity Gala Dinner for the benefit (40,000 euro!) of the Confrérie’s international charitable arm, the “Association Caritative de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs” (ACCR).

It was truly an international event, unique in its presentation. President Yam Atallah, Vice-President Marie Jones, Members of the Conseil d’Administration and Conseil Magistral, together with Baillis Délégués and members from around the world – some 200 in all – gathered in the Pitter Event Center in Salzburg, the Mozart city, for an exceptional evening.

At the reception Champagne Pommery Brut Royal consorted with three ‘bars’ serving oysters, caviar and foie gras to get the event off to a glittering start. The high gastronomic aspirations continued into dinner with Austrian food and wines very much to the fore.

Not only was the ‘culture of the table’ much in evidence but the arts were also privileged. During the dinner a recital was given by the famous opera singer, Eva Lind. Her repertoire included international classics, German language favourites and ‘songs from the shows’. There was also an exhibition of works by Brigitta Maria Kaiser, an Austrian painter.

A tombola was enthusiastically supported at the end of the dinner. The lucky ticket holders won numerous prestigious bottles of wine including Château Petrus 1985, Château Latour 1989, Faiveley Corton ‘Clos des Cortons’ 1997 and Brunello di Montalcino 1969. It raised a further 14,000 euro for the Chaîne’s charity. This sum included 2,000 euro as a result of Mohamed Hammam, Member of the Conseil d’Administration & Bailli Délégué of Turkey, putting up for auction the star prize (the Château Petrus 1985) which he had won!

Sunday, October 11th, heralded an additional ‘Day of Culture’ for those who wished to take the time to discover the cultural and musical heritage of the city of Mozart.
