Portugal Dinner

Bailliage of Algarve, Portugal

Celebrating 14 years of the Chaîne
" Guests came from as far afield as Australia, Finland, Sweden and Denmark "

Members and their guests gathered at Restaurant O Barradas to celebrate the founding in 2005 of the Bailliage of Algarve within the global organisation that is our beloved Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

Guests came from as far afield as Australia, Finland, Sweden and Denmark as well as other parts of Portugal to enjoy, in a pleasant outdoor ambiance, tasting Quinta do Barradas red, white and rosé wines.

All wines are produced, according to the passionate philosophy of owner Luís Pequeno, without pesticides. Of note was that the red wine had been nominated “the best wine of the Algarve” in 2017.

With a great passion for winemaking, Luís decided to plant a vineyard in 2006 with Touriga Nacional, Syrah and Aragonez grape varieties. Four years later the first harvest showed the potential for great quality from the outset.

Quinta do Barradas is located in the prime area of the Algarve wine region for the production of excellent wines. All the work in the vineyard is manual where the old maxim applies that wine is made in the vineyard.

Dinner was served in the atmospheric dining room of this converted country house within sight of the kitchen. The menu followed once more the philosophy of Luis and his German wife Andrea who use only the best local ingredients to produce their food.  Their cuisine is based upon traditional Portuguese dishes with contemporary twists.

The evening was brought to a close when Bailli Roy Clevenholm thanked Luis and his kitchen brigade for their part in making this occasion such a memorable one.

This event helped to support our charities both internationally with the ACCR and in Portugal with our Gastronomic School where underprivileged children are given the opportunity to enrol in courses which give them a grounding in the hospitality industry.
