Kuwait Gala Dinner

Held at the residence of HE the German Ambassador

The Bailliage had a superb gala dinner at the residence of His Excellency Karlfried Bergner, Ambassador for Germany, and his wife. A Chevalier d’Honneur member of the Chaîne, HE Bergner has been Ambassador to the State of Kuwait since August 2016.

Germany in the autumn offers wonderful choices, which the Sheraton Hotel incorporated in a delectable, opulent menu.

We started with delicious smoked duck breast, liver pate and marinated baby pears, followed by oxtail soup, then pan fried pike-perch fillet and creamy pickled cabbage.

What better than goose to have for the main course given the time of the year and the fact that it was a Chaîne event. Prepared traditionally we had it braised with orange gravy, red cabbage, dumplings and caramelized chestnuts.

The dinner concluded with the world-famous apple strudel complemented by bourbon vanilla ice cream.

With the food applauding autumn in all its great flavours, richness and colours, each table highlighted famous German composers and musicians on the menu cards. Adding atmosphere a pianist played their music.

It was a really lovely evening that revealed the delicious gourmet side to German cuisine wonderfully executed by the Sheraton’s team.
